Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….
Portrait of Edmund Halley (1656-1742), English astronomer. Halley was interested in astronomy from his youth, and in 1676 set off to record the stars of the southern hemisphere. He set up an observatory on St.Helena, but the climate limited his catalogue to 341 stars. This made his reputation, however, and he was elected to the Royal Society. He then turned his attention to comets, predicting the return of one in particular. This is now called Halley's Comet, the most famous of its kind. He also discovered that stars are not fixed in the sky, having 'proper motion'. In 1720 he was made Astronomer Royal, a post he held for 20 years.
